Growing seagrass

With 90% of UK seagrass lost to pollution, development, and boating, the Ocean Conservation Trust has launched the Blue Meadows initiative to protect, restore, and regenerate vital seagrass meadows. These absorb carbon, support marine life, and shield coastlines. The programme combines hands-on research, diving, and restoration to better understand and recover these habitats. The Ocean Conservation Trust received a donation in the Environmental & conservation category in January 2024 to support their efforts in planting new meadows, installing protective markers, and raising awareness of the ecosystem services that seagrass provides.
